Helping Those Less Fortunate Obtain Safe Drinking Water

MISSION DESCRIPTION

The Wisconsin Water for the World Committee works to provide resources for safe drinking water to people in needy communities, defined by a set of objective criteria developed by the WWW committee.  The Committee raises funds to develop projects for sustainable drinking water, system operations training, and sanitation & and health education.

2007 – 2008 GOALS

1.         Review mission statement and annual goals in January and revise as determined.

2.         Raise at least $15,000 for designated water projects.

3.         Increase awareness and visibility of the WWW mission by participation in additional non-WWA events having pertinent goals and interests. 

4.         Finance projects in Guatemalan communities lacking sustainable, potable water.

5.         Complete El Adelanto, Guatemala project planning by end of April, 2008.

6.         Strengthen relationship with AWWA Water for People and contribute and/or cooperate with WFP-initiated projects.

7.         Encourage active involvement in WFP Water Corps.

8.         Strengthen relationship with all WWA committees and encourage cooperative projects.

9.         Establish an in-country liaison to facilitate Guatemalan project identification, intra-state communication, transportation, accommodations, local trainees, and project supplies for WWW projects.

10.       Establish a web-based database listing of the Coalition of Guatemalan Aid from the Great Lakes project clearing house in cooperation with other Guatemalan aid organizations.

 ACTIVITIES PLAN

 1.         January strategic planning committee meeting to evaluate 2007 objective and finalize approaches to
            achieving those objectives.

2.         Eight committee meetings, including three in-person and five telephone conferences.

3.         Broaden committee’s outreach for additional relief recipients and provide members with opportunities for hands-on participation in projects.

4.         Organize funding options in addition to the annual golf-outing and silent auction.

5.         Prepare at least 2 articles for the WWA section newsletter.

6.         Pursue a donation option for WWW as part of the annual conference registration.

7.         Donate to Water for People projects as funds allow.
