Requirements and Selection Criteria Information
Purpose
The WWA Scholarship was created by WWA’s Young Professional Committee to encourage and support outstanding students pursuing an education or training in the field of water supply and treatment and children of WWA members.
Entry Requirements
Applicants must submit:
- Application form.
- Proposed curriculum of study (i.e., a list of courses that have been and will be taken during the course of the pursued curriculum).
- One page statement of educational plans and career objectives (all categories) demonstrating or declaring an interest in the water supply field (Categories 1 and 2 only).
- One page resume that includes all schools, colleges and universities attended; dates, major fields of study, grade-point averages, degrees received, work experience, civic work, and extracurricular activities.
- Official transcripts. Official transcripts do not need to be sent directly from school; however, they must bear the original Registrar Seal. Photocopies will not be accepted.
Applications emailed or incomplete will not be considered.
Eligibility Category 1 - University Student
(One scholarship awarded for the 2012/2013 school year.)
- Enrolled full time in a university or college.
- Junior status or higher (including graduate school).
- Pursuing a degree in the water supply field.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 at time of application.
- Have not received WWA scholarship previously in this category.
- Applicant must be a U.S. citizen and a Wisconsin resident.
Eligibility Category 2 - Technical School Student
(One scholarship awarded for the 2012/2013 school year.)
- Enrolled full time in a technical school.
- Completed one semester at a technical school.
- Pursuing a degree in the water supply field.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 at time of application.
- Applicant must be a U.S. citizen and a Wisconsin resident.
Eligibility Category 3 - Son/Daughter of WWA Member
(Two scholarships awarded for the 2012/2013 school year.)
- Son/Daughter of a WWA member.
- High school senior.
- Enrolled full time in a university, college, or technical school for fall 2011 semester.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 at time of application.
- Applicant must be a U.S. citizen and a Wisconsin resident.
- All applicants considered without regard to color, gender, race, creed, or country of origin.
Selection Criteria
A selection committee from the WWA’s Young Professional Committee will evaluate the applicants and select the recipients based on quality of applicants’ academic records, career objectives, letters of reference/recommendation and extracurricular activities.
Time Schedule
Completed applications must be postmarked no later than May 4, 2012. The scholarship recipients will be notified by May 25, 2012, and will be publicly recognized at the 2012 WWA Annual Conference held on September 19-21, 2012, at the Radisson Paper Valley Hotel, Appleton.
Support Provided
The scholarships will provide a one-time grant to the most outstanding applicant(s) meeting the eligibility requirements of each of the three eligibility categories. The funds will be disbursed as follows, depending on the eligibility category met:
1. Category 1 - $750
2. Category 2 - $500
3. Category 3 – 2 - $500
Funds will be disbursed directly to the recipient upon receipt of successful completion of semester as full time student. The recipient must submit 1st semester grades (official transcripts) at end of semester indicating the successful completion of the semester as a full time student during the academic year the scholarship is awarded.
