To
monitor legislative and regulatory developments: to improve
WWA membership access to timely information on legislative
and regulatory matters of interest to the industry; to
promote WWA’s image as a “leader of industry information”
with state and federal legislators, regulatory agencies, and
organizations with common interests; and to assist the WWA
Board in formulating positions and action plans on
legislative and regulatory matters of interest to the
industry.

2008 Goals
-
Monitor state and federal legislative and regulatory
activities, identify those specific issues of interest
and concern to Wisconsin water utilities, and keep the
membership informed of important issues relevant to
Wisconsin’s water industry through timely and effective
communications.
-
Promote communications and
establish working relationships with state and federal
legislators and their staffs, with key regulatory
personnel, and with environmental and other
organizations with common interests.
-
Make recommendations to the Board
of Trustees for resolutions that set forth WWA’s
position on pending legislation and regulations at the
state and federal level.
-
Develop WWA
procedures and identify methods to effectively mobilize
WWA members to positively influence legislation and
regulations affecting Wisconsin’s water industry.
SUMMARY OF KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS
The
committee appointed and sponsored a WWA representative to
the annual AWWA Fly-In in Washington DC, bringing WWA issues
to the attention of Federal Legislators and their staff.
Chaired the 16th Annual Regulatory Affairs Seminar and
presented successful day-long seminar attended by over 70
participants.
Explored the possibility of joining forces with WRWA, WWA
and MEG in an attempt to increase the lobbying potential for
the Municipal Water Utilities in Wisconsin. During the 2007
calendar year, we were unable to work out a relationship
with WRWA.
In
September of 2007, a memorandum of Understanding was entered
into by MEG and WWA that will allow MEG and WWA to join
together and lobby on two current issues, the Groundwater
Quantity Act and the Great Lakes Compact.
