Requirements and Selection Criteria Information


Purpose

The WWA Scholarship was created by WWA’s Young Professional Committee to encourage and support outstanding students pursuing an education or training in the field of drinking water supply and treatment and children of WWA members.

 

Entry Requirements


Applicants must submit:

 

     Application form.    

      Proposed curriculum of study (i.e., list of courses that have been or will be taken during the   course of the pursued curriculum).

     Two letters of recommendation/reference, with at least one being an educational or professional reference.

      One page essay of educational plans and career objectives (all categories). For Category 1 and 2 applicants, the one page essay should also demonstrate or declare an interest in the drinking water supply field (especially in Wisconsin – see WWA Mission Statement).

     One page resume that includes all schools, colleges and universities attended; dates, major/fields of study, grade point average, degrees received, work experience, civic work, and extracurricular activities.

      Unofficial transcripts.

Incomplete applications will not be considered. Applications may be emailed to Scholarship Coordinator as single file less than 10 MB.


Eligibility Categories

 

Category 1 - University Student (One scholarship awarded for the 2014/2015 school year.)

 

     Enrolled full time in a university or college fall 2014 semester.

     Pursuing a degree in the drinking water field.

     Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 at time of application.

     Have not received WWA scholarship previously in this category.

     Applicant must be a U.S. citizen and Wisconsin resident.

     Additional consideration will be given to student members of AWWA.

 

Category 2 - Technical School Student (One scholarship awarded for the 2014/2015 school year.)

 

     Enrolled full time in a technical school for fall 2014 semester.

     Pursuing a degree in the drinking water field.

     Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 at time of application.

     Have not received WWA scholarship previously in this category.

     Applicant must be a U.S. citizen and Wisconsin resident.

     Additional consideration will be given to student members of AWWA.

 

Category 3 - Son/Daughter of WWA Member (Two scholarships awarded for the 2014/2015 school year.)

 

     Son/Daughter of a WWA member.

     High school senior.

     Enrolled full time in a university, college, or technical school for fall 2014 semester.

     Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 at time of application.

     Applicant must be a U.S. citizen and Wisconsin resident.

 

Selection Criteria

A selection committee from the WWA’s Young Professional Committee will evaluate the applications and select the recipients based on quality of the academic records, career objectives, letters of reference/recommendation and extracurricular activities. All applicants are considered without regard to color, gender, race, creed, or country of origin.

 

Time Schedule

Completed applications must be postmarked no later than May 2, 2014.  The scholarship recipients will be selected and notified by June 13, 2014. Scholarship recipients will be publicly recognized at the 2014 WWA Annual Conference held on September 16 – September 19, 2014 at the La Crosse Center, La Crosse, Wisconsin. Funds will be disbursed directly to the recipient upon receipt of 1st semester official transcripts showing successful completion of semester as full time student during the academic year the scholarship was awarded.

 

Support Provided

The scholarships will provide a one time grant to the most outstanding applicant(s) meeting the eligibility requirements in each of the three eligibility categories. The funds will be disbursed as follows, depending on the eligibility category met:

 

1.    Category 1 – (1) $1000

2.    Category 2 – (1) $750

3.    Category 3 – (2) - $750

 

In the event that a category receives no qualified applicants, the Scholarship Committee may award the scholarship to the next highest scoring candidate in any category. In the event that there are extra funds available and there are well-qualified candidates, the scholarship committee may grant additional awards to the next most qualified candidates, as determined by the blind grading process.
